In Drake\u2019s book, Titles Ruin Everything, <\/em>he wits: \u201cThose guys are so burnt out, we can smell it from here.\u201d<\/a> While this half-baked jab might\u2019ve been for his enemies, it certainly seems like the call is coming from inside the house. The rapper has been on a packed three-year run: He became the industry\u2019s Certified Lover Boy<\/em><\/a> in 2021, released two back-to-back albums that following year, and ended his 21 Savage-assisted tour<\/a> this month. Drake\u2019s drive is undeniably impressive; however, that steam appeared to fade on his latest album, For All The Dogs. <\/em><\/p>\n The new record, which dropped on Oct. 6, was supposed to be a win for Drake\u2019s OG fans (raises hand). Earlier this summer, the 6ix rapper shared in his book that For All The Dogs<\/em> would embrace his older sonic roots<\/a> \u2014 a sentiment that\u2019s been following his career for over five years.<\/p>\n However, his efforts to make a mature version of his nostalgic classics (think Take Care<\/em> and Care Package<\/em>) fell short on this release. On the all-bark-no-bite record, Drake uses tired flows and disjointed one-liners to dig up old drama, and those aims are intriguing yet exhausting<\/a> at times.<\/p>\n For All The Dogs <\/em>sees Drake at his most unfiltered, but at a high cost. He\u2019s an agent of chaos \u2014 which, at this point, should be the name of his canine persona \u2014 on this album, and has already provided enough shade to completely overpower the album. Well, welcome to self-sabotaging Scorpio season<\/a>. <\/p>\n From allegedly dissing Rihanna and A$AP Rocky to addressing old controversy, here are the messiest scandals from this era so far. <\/p>\n 01<\/span><\/p>\n Drake\u2019s Sampling Issue With Pet Shop Boys <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Drake sprinkles in quite a few samples on For All The Dogs. <\/em>While some of those inclusions brighten up the album<\/a>, others have dimmed it and sparked some backlash. On Oct. 6, the Pet Shop Boys called out Drake on X (formerly known as Twitter) for interpolating their 1986 hit, \u201cWest End Girls,\u201d on the album without proper credit<\/a>.<\/p>\n The interpolation can be heard on \u201cAll the Parties,\u201d<\/a> a smooth track about Drake\u2019s decades-long success in the rap game. In the final verse, Drake half-croons: \u201cAnd it\u2019s 6, our town a dead end world \/ East End boys and West End girls.\u201d<\/p>\n This is a clear reference to the British pop duo\u2019s original track<\/a>, where they sing: \u201cIn a West End town, a dead end world \/ The East End boys and West End girls.\u201d<\/p>\n Pet Shop Boys, which include members Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, aren\u2019t featured in the track\u2019s credits on Genius<\/a> or any other streaming platform.<\/p>\n While Drake hasn\u2019t responded to the call-out, it seems those in his team are aware of the sampling issue. One day after the album released, Mr. Morgan \u2014 the president of Drake\u2019s OVO label<\/a> \u2014 joked about the album\u2019s potentially uncleared samples in the last slide of his Instagram post<\/a>. Yikes. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n 02<\/span><\/p>\n Drake Allegedly Dissed Rihanna And A$AP Rocky On For All The Dogs<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n As mentioned, For All The Dogs<\/em> occasionally enters some murky territory in the lyrics department. That first trace appears on the album\u2019s fourth track \u201cFear Of Heights,\u201d where fans believe the rapper threw shade at his ex-girlfriend Rihanna<\/a> and her new beau A$AP Rocky. That\u2019s not all, though. <\/p>\n Drake also mentions Rocky\u2019s nickname, Pretty Flacko<\/a>, on \u201cAnother Late Night\u201d featuring Lil Yachty. He raps: \u201cI ain\u2019t Pretty Flacko. B*tch, this sh*t get really Rocky.\u201d<\/a> The couple hasn\u2019t responded to the alleged shade; however, they\u2019re not the only musicians Drake had choice words for. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n 03<\/span><\/p>\n Drake And Joe Budden Read Each Other For Filth On Social Media<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Fans weren\u2019t the only ones who thought For All The Dogs <\/em>was a disorienting album. Joe Budden, whose had a years-long feud with Drake, also shared his thoughts on the record on his self-titled podcast. In the Oct. 8 episode<\/a>, Budden argued the Canadian emcee is \u201crapping for the kids, streams, and the accolades.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cI had to look up how old this n*gga was when I finished listening to the album,\u201d Budden said in the segment, which was later shared by live-streamer DJ Akademiks on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cYou are 36. Your birthday is in 20 days. I Googled that, too. Get the f*ck away from some of these younger n*ggas. And stop f*cking these 25-year-olds.\u201d<\/p>\n With the duo having such a fraught history<\/a>, it wasn\u2019t long until Drake responded to Budden\u2019s criticism. That same day, the rapper fired back in the comments section of the Instagram post. \u201c[Budden], you have failed at music,\u201d he began the lengthy post<\/a>, further mocking the retired rapper\u2019s career. \u201cFor any artist watching this, just remember you are watching a failure give their opinion on his idea of a recipe for success. A quitter giv[ing] their opinion on how to achieve longevity.\u201d Oof.<\/p>\n On Oct. 11, Budden returned to his podcast to read<\/a> and respond to Drake\u2019s fiery comment<\/a>. \u201cDrake, I wish you would come out and say that I\u2019m one of the best podcasters to ever do this sh*t,\u201d Budden said. \u201cI was disappointed. Even if we\u2019re frenemies, I\u2019m disappointed in him saying, \u2018yo, I feel like you don\u2019t have respect for me as a man.\u2019 That\u2019s not true.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n 04<\/span><\/p>\n Drake Revealing He\u2019s Still Not Over His Grammy Loss To Esperanza Spalding <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Rihanna and A$AP Rocky weren\u2019t the only ones to to feel Drake\u2019s repressed wrath. On \u201cAway From Home,\u201d the rapper snipes at Esperanza Spalding, a jazz musician that won the Best New Artist Grammy over him in 2011<\/a>. Yes, 12 whole years ago. <\/p>\n In the multi-produced track, he raps: \u201cFour GRAMMY\u2019s to my name, a hundred nominations \/ Esperanza Spalding was gettin\u2019 all the praises \/ I\u2019m tryna keep it humble, I\u2019m tryna keep it gracious \/ Who give a f*ck Michelle Obama put you on her playlist? \/ Then we never hear from you again like you was taken.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n 05<\/span><\/p>\n Drake Addressed His Controversial Friendship With Millie Bobby Brown <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Millie Bobby Brown and Drake\u2019s former friendship had social media stunned\u2014 and not in a pleasant way. In 2018, the Stranger Things<\/em> actor told Access Hollywood<\/em> that they became friends after meeting in Australia<\/a> the year prior and \u201ctext one another\u201d regularly. This revelation didn\u2019t sit right with many people, as the two have a large age gap: Brown was 14-years-old while Drake was 31-years-old at the time. <\/p>\n Drake was met with a swarm of criticism, and Brown ultimately defended their friendship<\/a> in her Instagram Stories that year. \u201cWhy u gotta make a lovely friendship ur headline? U guys are weird\u2026 for real,\u201d she said at the time. \u201cI\u2019m very blessed to have amazing people in my life. In another lyrical cut from the track, Lil Yachty raps: \u201cShe had big t*ts like Billie Eilish, but she couldn\u2019t sing.\u201d <\/p>\n This random remark had fans scratching their heads<\/a>, as Drake also had an interaction with Eilish that social media deemed inappropriate. Similar to the controversy with Brown, Drake was criticized for becoming friends with the singer before she turned 18.
