Welcome to the 1989<\/em>-verse. There\u2019s an undeniable allure to Taylor Swift\u2019s fifth album, which was re-released on Oct. 27. Before its original release in 2014, Swift dominated the country-pop genre<\/a> with ease. But in a surprise twist, she retired that teardrop-stained guitar to focus on her now untouchable pop star persona<\/a>. The singer stepped into her dramatic synth-pop bag on 1989<\/em> \u2014 and rightfully so, because what\u2019s a pure pop album without a little melodrama? Without that level of exaggeration, there\u2019s a chance the project\u2019s fourth single, \u201cBad Blood,\u201d wouldn\u2019t exist.<\/p>\n \u201cBad Blood\u201d is a legendary representation of the 1989 <\/em>era.<\/em> At the time, Swift moved to New York<\/a> (hence the album\u2019s opening track), was involved in a few feuds<\/a>, and built a new squad of friends. Her besties \u2014 which included Selena Gomez, Karlie Kloss, Hailee Steinfeld, Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, and more \u2014 were always seen with Swift, whether that be at an award show<\/a> or a wholesome girl\u2019s night in<\/a>. <\/p>\n The group\u2019s most iconic appearance came in the \u201cBad Blood\u201d music video<\/a>, where each friend channeled their inner superhero to \u201cbattle\u201d Swift\u2019s rumored nemesis at the time: Katy Perry<\/a>. While the two singers are now on good terms<\/a>, that can\u2019t be fully said for Swift\u2019s relationship with her OG squad.<\/p>\n After the music video released in 2015, her inner circle went through a few changes \u2014 either some friends were left behind, remained close to Swift, or had their own disagreements with the singer. Interestingly, only a handful of her former squad have made it into her new friend group<\/a>. <\/p>\n In honor of 1989<\/em>\u2019s re-release, let\u2019s investigate where Swift stands with her \u201cBad Blood\u201d posse. <\/p>\n Cara Delevingne was one of many model-actors that appeared in Swift\u2019s squad. According to Insider<\/a><\/em>, the two first met at the 2013 Victoria\u2019s Secret Fashion Show and took a few photos backstage<\/a>. By the next year, Delevingne had joined the singer\u2019s inner circle. Not only did she star as Mother Chucker (a fighter known for her nunchuck skills) in the 2015 \u201cBad Blood\u201d music video, she also attended Swift\u2019s 1989 <\/em>tour<\/a> that same year. <\/p>\n Luckily, their friendship remained strong beyond the 1989<\/em> era. In 2019, Delevingne publicly supported Swift<\/a> amid her feud with Scooter Braun over the ownership of her music. Then, after the release of 2020\u2019s Folklore<\/em>, Swift sent Delevingne a replica of the oversized sweater<\/a> she wore in the \u201cCardigan\u201d<\/a> music video. <\/p>\n Now, nearly three years after that cozy gift, it appears their connection hasn\u2019t dwindled. This year alone, Delevingne attended (and live streamed<\/a>) the opening night of Swift\u2019s Eras Tour in Arizona and was seen hanging out with the singer<\/a> last month. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Cindy Crawford is another supermodel that made it into Swift\u2019s squad. ICYMI, she starred as the Headmistress<\/a> in the \u201cBad Blood\u201d music video. It seemed this role was destined for Crawford, as she compared her latex, sword-wielding character to her fierce walk at Thierry Mugler\u2019s 1990 runway show<\/a>. <\/p>\n In terms of Crawford and Swift\u2019s current friendship status, it seems a bit gray. The two stars haven\u2019t been spotted together since the \u201cBad Blood\u201d era; however, Swift seems to be cordial with Crawford\u2019s daughter, Kaia Gerber<\/a>.<\/p>\n Gerber was one of many celebrities who received the Folklore <\/em>cardigan in 2020 (ahem, her aforementioned selfie with Delevingne<\/a>) and she attended Swift\u2019s L.A. Eras show<\/a> on Aug. 8. With that said, there\u2019s a chance Swift and Crawford might still be in one another\u2019s good graces. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n This is another case of a gray-area friendship. Ellie Goulding and Swift first met as guests on the Jonathan Ross Show<\/em><\/a> in 2012. The two remained close afterward, so much so that Swift tapped Goulding to play Destructa X in the \u201cBad Blood\u201d music video. If that doesn\u2019t speak to their bond, Goulding also reportedly introduced Swift to Calvin Harris<\/a>, whom she later dated from March 2015 to June 2016. <\/p>\n Since that relationship infamously ended on a sour note<\/a>, fans assumed that Swift might\u2019ve had a falling out with Goulding, too. The two singers haven\u2019t publicly interacted since the 1989<\/em> era, so it seems like they have drifted apart. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Gigi Hadid and Swift\u2019s friendship goes back to the mid-2010s. The two first met at Vanity Fair<\/em>\u2019s <\/em>Oscar party in March 2014, and Hadid shared their interaction on Instagram<\/a>, per People<\/a>. <\/em>It wasn\u2019t long until she became a staple in Swift\u2019s inner circle, making her the perfect cast-mate as Slay-Z in the \u201cBad Blood\u201d video. <\/p>\n The duo continued sharing sweet moments over the next eight years, cementing that they\u2019re still close friends. In 2015, Hadid joined Swift on stage<\/a> during one of her 1989 <\/em>shows. The following year, Swift gifted Hadid a personalized cake<\/a> for her 21st birthday.<\/p>\n The two stars have also publicly hung out several times this year<\/a>, most recently when Hadid cheered on the singer at the Eras Tour in July<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Hailee Steinfeld was another member of Swift\u2019s early friend group. She starred in the \u201cBad Blood\u201d music video as The Trinity, the only member to get a three-person character. Similarly to Hadid, she also appeared on Swift\u2019s <\/a>1989<\/a><\/em> tour<\/a> in 2015. <\/p>\n These few moments proved the two were friends, but not on a besties level. In an August 2016 interview with Seventeen<\/em>, Steinfeld revealed that she and Swift aren\u2019t as close as fans think<\/a>, but she complimented Swift as being \u201camazing\u201d nonetheless.<\/p>\n As for where they stand now, it\u2019s a bit uncertain. The two singers haven\u2019t been spotted together since the 1989<\/em> show; however, they\u2019re both now prominently dating NFL players<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Hayley Williams and Swift\u2019s connection goes all the way back to 2009, when they met as first-time attendees at the Grammys. Nearly two years later, Swift brought Williams out to sing \u201cThat\u2019s What You Get\u201d<\/a> during her Speak Now<\/em> tour. Their friendship hit another echelon four years later, when Williams appeared in the \u201cBad Blood\u201d cast as the Crimson Curse \u2014 a genius nod to her iconic red hair<\/a>.<\/p>\n After 1989<\/em>, their bond flew under the radar. It wasn\u2019t until this year that the two began publicly praising one another. For the first half of Swift\u2019s Eras Tour, Paramore served as one of the opening acts<\/a>. Alba\u2019s cameo in \u201cBad Blood\u201d (a motorcycle-riding icon named Domino) made perfect sense, as she starred in that exact action movie in 2005. While her friendship with Swift seemed sudden at the time, the two actually had a brief run-in at the 2010 American Music Awards. There, the actor presented Swift with the Favorite Country Female Artist trophy<\/a>.<\/p>\n In August 2015, three months after the music video\u2019s release, Alba shared a sweet photo with Swift on Instagram. \u201cMy lil #squad w the most beautiful, talented and kindest @taylorswift<\/a>,\u201d she wrote. <\/p>\n While the two haven\u2019t been seen together since this photo op, it seems there\u2019s no ill will between them. Karlie Kloss and Swift\u2019s friendship began with a Vogue<\/em> interview and a passion for baking. In January 2012, Swift told the outlet she wanted to \u201cbake cookies\u201d<\/a> (her unofficial second career<\/a>) with the model, and Kloss showed interest in the plan<\/a>. However, they wouldn\u2019t officially meet until November 2013 at the Victoria\u2019s Secret Fashion Show.<\/p>\n After that meeting, the two became practically inseparable. Luckily, it doesn\u2019t seem their friendship is running on thin ice. <\/p>\n Like most of Swift\u2019s inner circle, Aldridge made a surprise appearance at the 1989<\/em> tour. Then, in September 2016 \u2014 two days after Swift\u2019s reported breakup with Tom Hiddleston \u2014 the two pals had a girls\u2019 night out in New York. Similar to Swift\u2019s cat Meredith Gray, the singer named another one of her feline pets after Hargitay\u2019s Law & Order<\/em> character: Olivia Benson.
